FUNAG and Camões Institute publish work on the uniqueness of Brazilian Independence
In the context of the celebration of the Bicentennial of Brazilian Independence, the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation and the Camões Institute have published the work As singularidades da Independência do Brasil [The uniqueness of Brazilian Independence], which brings together previously-unpublished articles by experts from both sides of the Atlantic regarding the complex period that culminates in the Brazilian emancipation into an independent state. The work consists in an exercise in comparative history, in which each contribution adds a singular and enriching perspective to the collection, involving Brazil and Portugal during the crisis of the Old Regime, in a multifaceted mosaic of viewpoints: institutional, diplomatic, political, economic, cultural, Portuguese, and Brazilian.
Its target audience is made up of students, teachers, researchers, and all with an interest in knowing more about a long and intricate chain of events that the collective memory condenses into one day in the 19th century, September 7, 1822, but whose developments contribute to shape Brazil into its current form and the one it will take in the coming years, as well as to support the solid edifice still under construction by the two sister nations.
The work is available, in Portuguese, free of charge from FUNAG’s digital library .
