1817 Pernambucan Revolt is a topic of the Bicentennial Collection
In the scope of the “Bicentennial: Brazil 200 years – 1822-2022”, the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation has launched a new edition of A Revolução de 1817 e a História do Brasil: Um estudo de história diplomática [The 1817 Revolt and Brazil’s History: a study in diplomatic history]. Based on the study of diplomatic, private, and journalistic correspondence of the time, Ambassador Gonçalo Mourão discusses four issues of our historiography: the diplomacy of revolutionists and their international repercussion; the importance of the republicanism of the 1817 Revolt in building nationality; the role that, through the Revolt, Haitian independence had in the choice for monarchic independence; and the national precursor and socially encompassing vocation of the revolutionary movement.
