ADVANCED STUDIES IN DEFENSE COURSE (CAED)
Objective
To develop competencies in matters of Security, Development and Defense, based on studies of the Brazilian reality and its surroundings, prioritizing the interests of National Defense, to provide professionals in senior management and advisory positions with useful theoretical-practical instruments for the formulation of policies and strategies in the field of Defense, in a broad sense.
Audience
a) civilians appointed by invited institutions, state-run or private, national or of friendly nations;
b) senior officers (colonels) of the Armed Forces holding a Staff Course Certificate;
c) senior officers (colonels) of the Auxiliary Forces holding a Staff Course Certificate; and
d) senior officers (colonels) of friendly nations holding a Staff Course Certificate.
Course Organization
CAED is an in-person course. The classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 12:40pm. Other occasional activities, such as lectures at the campus, visits in Brasília and its surrounding areas, may be carried out. There are three Interdisciplinary Field Trips, two in Brazil and one abroad; and each one lasts a whole week.
The course lasts 39 weeks and the course load is of 556 hrs/year. There is one week off in July.
CAED 2025 will be held from February 24 to November 28.
Throughout the course, the students will have the following subjects: Security, Development and Defense: The Brazilian Nation and Defense within a Historical Perspective; Strategic Studies; Informational Space and Defense; Geopolitics; International Relations; National Defense; Governance and Defense; Studies Applied to Crises Analysis; Scientific Research Methodology; Law Applied to Defense; and Advanced Topics on Security, Development and Defense.
