Last December, the Brazilian government celebrated the 24 million trees planted in the protected areas of Usina Binacional Itaipu, in Foz do Iguaçu. Itaipu's initiative is part of Brazil's National Green Growth Program to launch sustainable policies and use of natural resources.
The Program provides funding and subsidies to encourage sustainable economic projects and activities prioritize environmental licensing and generate green jobs. The goal is to neutralize the country's carbon emissions by 2050.
