Brazilian government takes action to protect the elderly against violence
An Operation coordinated by the Federal government to fight violence against the elderly across the country - in one month - assisted 16,911 victims, rescued 258, and arrested 614 suspects. The action reached 3,220 municipalities in 26 states and the Federal District.
Nearly 15,700 professionals worked through August and September in preventive and repressive actions Over 12,139 complaints were investigated and 24,245 investigations carried out. A total of 1,545 urgent protective measures were issued, and 409 court orders were executed.
Besides repressive actions, the Operation also moved preventively and raised awareness about violence against the elderly. During this year’s Op more than 494 educational actions were carried out throughout Brazil.
