Brazilian Government launches the “Roma Youth Project” to support Roma communities in Brazil.
A Cooperation Agreement between the Federal govt and private sector launched the Roma Youth Project in Brazilian communities, to provide training in the areas of entrepreneurship, financial education and preparation for the labor market for Roma youths aged between 15 and 29.
This opportunity encompasses not only the youth, but the entire community of which they are a part. The appreciation of culture through entrepreneurship becomes one of the most powerful ways to give visibility to this population.
The first Roma people arrived in Brazil in 1574. There are at least three gypsy ethnic groups in the country: Calon, Rom and Sinti, living in camps or ranches. Associations dedicated to the Roma population estimated, in 2014, that there were around half a million in the country.
