Team Brazil had an outstanding performance in the Games of the Paralympiad s, being its best ever. Legend Daniel Dias won 3 bronze in Tokyo, totaling 27 medals over his career, remaining the Brazilian athlete with most medals won at the Paralympics, and the most decorated swimmer in the world.
Athletics was the sport that guaranteed the most medals for Brazil: 28 in total. In Swimming, we saw the best performance in the history of the Paralympics: 23 medals. Swimmer Carol Santiago won 5 medals in Tokyo, the Brazilian female athlete with most medals in the Games.
In Tokyo, Brazilian sprinter Petrúcio Ferreira, the fastest Paralympic athlete in the world, became two-time champion in the 100-meter dash race. Petrúcio broke the Paralympic record by winning the race in 10s53. He still holds the world record in the 200-meter dash, with 21s10.
At the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the 259 athletes who represented Brazil were responsible for our best performance ever; 22 gold, 20 silver, and 30 bronze. Of this total, 68 medals were won by athletes sponsored by the Brazilian government through the “Bolsa Atleta” program.
