The International Mother Language Day
The International Mother Language Day was established by UNESCO with the aim of creating awareness about the importance of preserving the linguistic and cultural particularities of each society.
In 2022 the theme to be discussed will be the "use of technology for multilingual learning: challenges and opportunities." Portuguese is the official language of Brazil and eight other countries and is spoken on five continents.
There are more than 270 million speakers, and it is the fifth most widespread language in the world and the most widely used in the Southern Hemisphere. In our country alone, more than 210 million people are native speakers of Portuguese.
Portuguese is growing considerably in Africa, the US, and China. As it is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, the role of our language has considerable importance in the responsibility for the correct dissemination of information and knowledge.
