Brazil is key to global food security. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply says the performance of crops and livestock throughout the year shown by the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) in 2022 is expected to reach R$ 1.208 trillion, up 3.1% from 2021.
Crops grew by 8.8%. Bananas, beans, oranges, cassava and potatoes had increased production in 2022. Coffee, sugarcane, cotton & corn are pushing the VBP forward. In 2021 they represented 36.8% of the total, but now they make up 44.4%, with the highest prices on record since 1989.
