The City + Green Program (Cidades+Verdes)
Concerned with enhancing the environmental quality of our cities, where 84% of the Brazilian population live, the Federal government created the City + Green program (Cidades+Verdes), officially included in the Ministry of the Environment’s Urban Environmental Agenda.
Within the scope of City + Green, with the support and of the Federal government, the city of Goiânia in the state of Goiás set a record by managing to have 50,000 native trees from the Brazilian biome ‘Cerrado’ planted in just 30 minutes, thanks to the local community.
Goiania now uses the Urban Environmental Registry app, developed by the Brazilian govt, with a list of every urban green area registered by the city. Citizens may assess the conditions of each of these areas and report the need for improvements, helping the city to perform better.
