The Brazilian Government will expand research in Antarctica
Brazil is expanding research in Antarctica through its National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT). The Brazilian Antarctic Program (PROANTAR) and the Cryosphere Research Base 2 are national priorities and will receive more resources beginning in 2022.
The resources of the FNDCT will guarantee financial support for the continuity of PROANTAR's research projects for the next three years as well as provide the funds for the maintenance of the Cryosphere module and the installation of the new Cryosphere 2 module.
PROANTAR, now in its 40th year, carries out scientific research in the Antarctic region with the aim of understanding the phenomena that occur there and their influence on the Atlantic Ocean, specifically on South America, which includes Brazilian territory.
The results of the work of Brazilian researchers in Antarctica make an important contribution to the understanding of the environmental and biological phenomena of the frozen continent, contributing to its preservation and sustainable use, and to advancements in several areas.
