The Brazilian government signed an agreement with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), one of the world’s foremost research laboratories in high energy and particle physics. Brazilian companies will be allowed to access the Large High-Light Hadron Collider.
Brazil will be the third non-European country to be part of this selective group of 30 members, and its membership comes as a recognition of the country’s excellence in science. Brazilian scientists have already been taking part in experiments and theoretical debate at CERN.
Through the development of applied science to new materials, automation, the aerospace sector, and medical isotopes, the Center contributes to economic development through technological innovation, increased productivity, and creation of new markets and highly qualified jobs.
Membership had been an aspiration of Brazilian universities and the scientific community. Brazilian companies may become suppliers for the Center and join research on new technology and solutions, including the integration of CERN to Sírius, Brazil’s particle accelerator.
