The Brazilian government signed a cooperation agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank for a credit line of $1.2 billion for the sustainable development of agricultural production chains in the country, to be used by federal and state agents according to strict rules.
About US$ 230 million will be earmarked for the sustainable economic development of Brazil’s Northeastern hinterland, the AgroNordeste plan. It will benefit associations and cooperatives of 301 cities in 10 Brazilian states that produce honey, fruits, milk, farm goat & sheep.
The credit line will remain available for 10 years but the projects must be aligned with the priorities of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture's Strategic Plan for 2020-2031, focusing on agricultural innovation, environmental regularization and sustainability.
