The Brazilian government believes and invests in Tourism. Last year, R$866 million were invested in 762 infrastructure projects to improve the conditions of Brazilian tourist cities and valorize the sector's potential, attracting even more visitors and receiving them with more comfort.
The improvements included renovations and construction of event spaces, public squares, waterfronts, asphalt paving, and viewpoints, among other interventions. In the Northeast region alone, 268 projects were completed, with R$274.7 million in investments. The South region was the second to receive the most improvements, with 219 projects, followed by the Southeast, with 155.
One of the examples of the Brazilian government's action in Tourism improvement works is the city of Balsas, in the state of Maranhão. Place of several rivers and incredible waterfalls, the construction of the waterfront of the river with the same name of the city was finished and involved concreting works, landscaping, and the construction of kiosks.
The fruit of these investments has been giving results. One of the sectors most affected by the pandemic, Tourism resumed growth in 2021 and recorded revenues of R$152.4 billion, an increase of 12% over the previous year. The air transport and lodging segments were the most prominent, up 28% and 13.1%, respectively.
