The Brazilian government highlights the presence of indigenous women in different spaces and sectors of society and is committed to female autonomy in native communities across the country, among the more than 300 ethnic groups existing in our national sovereign territory.
Celebrating International Women’s Day, the National Indian Foundation, FUNAI, praises native women who decided to stand out as professionals and make a difference. That is the case of Liliane Kenezokaerocê, graduating in Agronomy to help develop agriculture in her community.
Valdirene Avelino teaches her native language, Math, Sciences and Portuguese from K-6 grade at the Wazare Indigenous School. She sees formal education as the foundation for better jobs and quality of life. She says it is gratifying to see her students entering college.
Eliane Aparecida Zoizocairoce stood up to the challenge of being president of an agricultural cooperative, representing about 1,950 indigenous people. She sees herself as an example for other women: “Nothing is impossible, all it takes is planning and discipline”, says Eliane.
