The Brazilian government encourages the production and sustainable use of biomethane
Last March, the Brazilian Government launched new measures to encourage the production and sustainable use of biomethane, a biofuel obtained by the purification of biogas, which can replace natural gas, diesel and gasoline.
A decree and two executive orders that promote the use of biomethane as a renewable and environmentally sustainable energy source were signed, as a means of contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the assurance of energy security in Brazil.
One of the measures signed includes investments in biomethane in the Special Regime of Incentives for Infrastructure Development(Reidi), which will contribute to the construction of new biomethane production plants and the installation of green corridors to supply heavy vehicles.
The Government has also instituted the National Program for the Reduction of Methane Emissions - Methane Zero. The initiative will reduce methane emissions and foster sectorial agreements, contributing to the fulfillment of the commitments made by Brazil during COP26.
