Sugarcane production is expected to increase in the 2022/2023 harvest
As raw material for sugar, ethanol, biomethane, biogas and electricity generation, sugarcane stands out in national agricultural production not only due to its production value, but as an important factor in environmental sustainability, which generates employment and income.
For the 2022/23 harvest, 596 million tons of sugarcane are estimated, according to the National Supply Company, up 2.9% than the previous crop. Sugar production for the current harvest is estimated at 40.3 million tons; ethanol produced is expected to reach 24.8 billion liters.
Sugarcane is also source of clean energy, an example of sustainability and application of the circular economy. The many uses of sugarcane present many opportunities for increasing energy efficiency with the aggregation of value, shrinking costs and strong economic development.
