Shrimp production by the Potiguara indigenous people has the support of the Brazilian government and benefits around 500 families. Last year, estimated production reached more than 250 tons, 18% of all production in the state of Paraíba.
Aiming at the self-sufficiency of indigenous communities, the Brazilian government has already invested around R$ 30 million in training and acquisition of agricultural and fishing materials and seeds.
With approximately 100 tanks, annual revenue is estimated at R$ 1.5 million per year. Production takes place in an area equivalent to 120 hectares.
