Operation Ágata: a joint operation against crimes on the states of Amazonas and Roraima’s borders

The Brazilian government launched a joint operation against crimes on the states of Amazonas and Roraima’s borders, carried out by 1,500 personnel from the military, Federal and local police, and the Institutes for the Environment (IBAMA) and Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio).
“Operation Ágata” also involved coordination with neighboring countries, and included preventive and repressive actions against smuggling, embezzlement, drug trafficking and illegal mining. In the Op., 100 vessels, one hospital and four patrol ships, and 24 aircraft were employed.
The troops also provide social, medical and dental assistance to the vulnerable communities in the region, besides organizing educational lectures and activities. Additionally, the military work to restore damaged and public facilities in the area.
