National Bank of Genetic Profiles reaches the mark of 120 thousand registered profiles
The Brazilian government believes in cutting-edge technology to fight crime and has invested heavily in the National Genetic Profile Bank, an important tool to assist in the investigation of crimes, procedural instructions and the identification of missing persons.
Whilst in May of 2019 the Bank contained around 30,000 profiles, September last year it reached a milestone of 120 thousand registered profiles, a significant growth thanks to determination, hard work and the investment of more than R$ 100 million since the beginning of 2019.
The Bank has three main goals; first, the investigation of sex crimes; secondly, the search for missing persons; and lastly, the collection of forensic data from crime scenes. In Brazil, it is mandatory to identify the genetic profile of those convicted of serious violent crimes.
