The Brazilian government will regulate the plant-based market to ensure fair competition in the sector and safety for consumers. Plant-Based products are those composed solely of raw materials of vegetal origin, and that seek to mirror the organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of existing animal products.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply intends to guarantee the coexistence of both animal and vegetal protein sources. To this end, the government raised societal concerns regarding this type of product.
The final public consultation report compiles 332 contributions sent by entities in the food sector and consumers. Brazil hopes to be a reference in alternative proteins.
