The production of wind energy in Brazil hit a record in 2021, exceeding 20 gigawatts of installed capacity and becoming the third largest source of electricity generation in the country, according to data from the monthly energy bulletin released by the federal government.
Wind power accounted for 10.7% of domestic electricity supply last year, an expansion of 22%. Currently, 777 plants have been installed with a capacity of 21 gigawatts, another 4.9 gigawatts are under construction.
The Northeast region has about 90% installed capacity thanks to the climate and strong winds favoring the area in the production of this clean and renewable energy.
