In 2021, with the efficient use of the Ministry of Justice’s R$ 5,119 billion budget, the Brazilian government worked to strengthen public safety in the country through special operations, training programs, investments in equipment, weapons, vehicles and new technologies.
The work takes place through coordinated, joint, systemic and integrated action by the security agencies of the Union and the states, targeting criminal organizations. To date, after 30 years of steady growth in violent crime figures, those numbers are finally moving downward.
In the last three years, there were 20k less homicides each year. In 2017 the national rate of homicides was 30.8 per 100k inhabitants, an all time high. There's still a long way to go, but for the first time Brazil finds itself in the right path to become a safer country.
