Stimulating sustainable development, the Brazilian government instituted the new legal framework for Distributed Generation, which is electricity generated by consumers e.g. domestic solar panels.
Distributed generation grew by 316% in the last two years, reaching 8,550 (MW) by the end of 2021. This is about 5% of all the current installed capacity of electricity generation in the country.
Last year, the Energy Research Company published a study in which it projects a growth of 30 (GW) of the Distributed Generation of energy in the next 10 years. Additional investments in this scenario would be BRL 120 billion between 2022 and 2031.
