Brazil is reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agribusiness
The Brazilian government rolled out a new nationwide initiative to help the country reduce carbon emissions in agriculture and ranching for the period of 2020 to 2030. Dubbed Plano ABC+, the program is set to start on September 1st.
Based on incentives and the promotion of technology, the policy aims to consolidate Brazilian agriculture as a sustainability powerhouse, firmly based on resilient and productive farming systems, while allowing Brazil to provide the world with food security.
The ABC+ Plan goal is to recover 30 million hectares of degraded pastures; cultivate up to 12.5 million hectares in no-tillage systems; implement 10.10 million hectares in integrated production systems; plant 4 million hectares of forest; and use bio-inputs on 13 million hectares.
The Plan also intends to carry out the treatment of 208.4 million cubic meters of animal waste; implement 3 mil. hectares of irrigated areas for cultivation; and account for 5 million additional animals compared to 2020, in an intensive production system in its finishing phase.
