Located deep in the Brazilian Amazon, the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (Torre ATTO) is a 325-meter high research laboratory, a metallic structure equivalent to an 80-story building (taller than the Eiffel Tower), divided into 19 levels.
ATTO also includes two other 80-meter towers, as well as several container laboratories and a camp to accommodate the on-site scientists and technicians. These experiments are capable of generating data on the connection between the forest and the functioning of the climate.
This unique scientific experiment is the result of cooperation between the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) and Germany’s Max Planck Institute.
