The Brazilian government has allocated almost R$ 72 million to inspect and protect indigenous lands. Those actions are essential to ensure the safety of indigenous communities, to prevent the spread covid-19 in those communities and to fight all kinds of criminal offenses.
After over 1,200 inspections performed, those operations helped to prevent crimes, reducing deforestation in indigenous lands by 22.75%. A total of 38 offenders have been arrested; 89 aircraft and 9 boats used for illegal activities in the Yanomami lands have been seized in 2021.
Last December, the Brazilian government launched a task force to distribute 22.5 tons of food to the Yanomami. It also provided primary healthcare and basic necessities. Due to their land’s location and size (96.650 km²) the transport operation demanded extensive logistic efforts.
