Actions to prevent forest fires in Indigenous Lands

The Brazilian government, through its indigenous and environmental protection agencies - FUNAI and IBAMA - carried out a series of actions to prevent forest fires in Indigenous Lands in the country, guaranteeing the preservation of forests and the quality of the reserves.
Integrated Fire Management activities were essential to prevent large forest fires during the dry season. The techniques involves the opening of firebreaks and precedes the dry season in each region, aiming to create a buffer belt around the Indigenous Lands to contain the flames.
Among the Indigenous Lands covered by the actions are Xerente, Funil, Kraholandia, Apinajé, Pqara and Ynãwebohonã, located in the state of Tocantins; White Urubu, Krenlehê, Tapirapé/Karajá, Irantxe, Menkü, Bakairi, Paranatinga, Juinhinha, Paresi, Baía dos Guató, Perigara and Pimentel Barbosa, located in Mato Grosso; and Araribóia, Governador, Krikati, Porquinhos and Caru, located in the state of Maranhão.
