The Brazilian government, through FUNAI, launched the Indigenous Independence program. The Xavante ethnic group, which participates in the initiative, consists of around 2,700 indigenous people in 57 villages.
The government encourages sustainable production activities and provides machinery, as well as training in tractor operation and cultivation practices.
“We want to get out of welfare and bring dignity to our communities, improving its living conditions. The project is very important for the independence of the Xavante people and will bring many benefits”, said Chief Gerson Warawe, celebrating the production of 106 tons of rice.
