The Brazilian government assists communities hit by floods
The Brazilian government created a Task Force, coordinated by the National Civil Defense, gathering federal, state and city multidisciplinary teams to assist the communities severely hit by floods in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais, in this strikingly heavy rain season.
Since early December, the military have been helping in search and rescue. Besides clearing blocked roads and providing drinking water, hygiene items and clothing, the Armed Forces have already distributed 60+ tons of food and 2.5 tons of medical supplies.
Relief funds have been made available by Caixa, the largest public bank in Brazil. Other public institutions, like Banco do Nordeste, and the program Pátria Voluntária launched campaigns to collect provisions and medical products, as well as financial aid to those in distress.
