Since 2019, the Brazilian Government has invested 4 billion reais ($700 million US dollars) to deliver water to its semiarid Northeast region, historically troubled by droughts and poor water supply.
Under the "Brazilian Waters" program, a total of 26 projects covering more than 250 municipalities across 10 states were implemented, benefiting over 12 million Brazilian citizens and generating almost two hundred thousand jobs.
Last October, the government promoted the "Waters Quest", a 10 days journey beginning at the source of the São Francisco river, in the state of Minas Gerais, and ending in Alagoas after crossing 10 states to inaugurate almost 500 KM of new water supply infrastructure projects.
And there's more to come: the Brazilian Government forecasts investments adding up to $6.72 billion to expand water supplies in the country and to optimize and harmonize competing water uses such as power generation, irrigation, household and industrial supply, among others.
