Brazil privatization projects
Since 2019, the privatization of state-owned assets is a milestone of the Brazilian government's agenda to liberalize the economy, attract new investors and promote more competition in Brazilian markets.
In less than three years, the Brazilian Government has privatized more than a hundred assets owned by the government, either directly or through state controlled enterprises. No other period in Brazilian history has seen more privatizations than the one we are currently in.
The Bolsonaro Administration has privatized BR Distribuidora, the largest distributor and marketer of petroleum derivatives and biofuels (ethanol) of Brazil and Latin America. It has also privatized TAG, the largest natural gas transportation company in Brazil.
The Brazilian government has also privatized Liquigás, a former subsidiary of Petrobras in the bottling, distribution and marketing of liquefied petroleum gas sector, as well as several other companies, such as Logigas, BB Turismo, Eletrosul, Amazonas Energia and CEAL.
These and other privatization projects allowed Brazil to raise over 220 billion reais (40 billion dollars) while liberalizing and modernizing the economy, putting the country on track for new investments for the future.
And there is much more to come with the future privatization of Eletrobras and Correios, which are respectively the largest Brazilian electric energy generation company and the national postal service of Brazil. Together they might raise more than 300 billion reais Brazilian.
