The CAPES Among Seas Program is a Capes iniative following the environmental disaster that struck the Brazilian sea coast in August 2019 and the demands presented by the Evaluation and Follow-up Group (GAA), created in the scope of the National Contingency Plan (PNC) to face the problem. The GGA is formed by memebers of the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Agency for Petrol, Natural Gas and Biofuel (ANP) and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment, Natural and Renewable Resources (IBAMA). Some of its goals are:
a)To support with costing resources and the granting of scholarships research projects in stricto sensu post-graduation programs which might contribute to the monitoring, containment and processing of residue found in the Brazilian territory or to minimize the consequences of the oil leak identified in the Brazilian coast line – specially in the Northeastern region – in August,2019. ;
b)To support with fundings and scholarships the post-graduation programs with lines of research lines related to the fighting and impact analyses of the oil leak which occuredin the Brazilian coast line in August 2019;
c) To encourage innovation iniatives in the areas focused in the current Public Notice, promoting the development of projects and systems capable of transferring knowledge from the academy to the society.
d)To contribute to the strengthening of the stricto sensu post-graduation programs in the Country.
