(Portaria MEC Nº 389, de 23 de março de 2017 e pela Portaria CAPES Nº 131, de 28 de junho de 2017)
Professional Master (MP) is a modality of stricto-sensu graduation degree aiming to qualify professionals in the different areas of knowledge through the study of techniques, processes, or topics that meet demands of the job market.
The objective of Professional Master is to contribute with the national manufacturing sector, strengthening the competitiveness and productivity of public and private companies. Thus, proposals for new Professional Master must present a curriculum that emphasizes the articulation between updated knowledge, mastery of the relevant methodology and application oriented to specific professional activities.
Therefore, part of the teaching staff must be constituted by recognized professionals in their fields and outstanding performance in a field of the proposed program. Also, courses’ final project must be linked to real problems in the students’ professional career field, according to the nature of the area and the purpose of the course; this final project can be presented in various formats.
These particularities of the Professional Master programs require that monitoring and evaluation are carried out based on specific criteria, defined by the areas of evaluation and carried out by a special subcommittee, even when taking place simultaneously with academic programs.
In order to guarantee the quality of Professional Masters, operational criteria and regulations are necessary to direct and control their implementation and development. Accreditation, recognition and re-accreditation of professional masters’ programs are granted through the results of evaluation and monitoring conducted by CAPES as established by the legislation – Resolution CNE/CES nº 1/2001, amended by Resolution CNE/CES nº 24/2002.
