Commissioner of CADE meets BRICS competition authorities
On 27 September, Commissioner Victor Oliveira Fernandes represented the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) in a meeting with the heads of competition authorities from the member states of BRICS, a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The meeting was part of the activities prior to the 17th Annual Competition Law, Economics and Policy Conference, carried out by the Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA), held from 28 to 29 September.
During the event, there were discussions on the most recent initiatives of the state members regarding competition policies and strategies to strengthen collaboration amongst the BRICS competition authorities. Furthermore, they discussed future opportunities for this cooperation and shared specific information on the preparation for the next conference, which will be held in India, in October.
According to Victor Fernandes, "the BRICS countries have been exploring their cooperation, especially regarding issues related to digital economy. The recent experiences of competition authorities were consolidated in the second edition of the Digital Economy Working Group Report, led by CADE. This report will be published in the next Biennial Conference on Competition, Regulation and Development that will be held in New Delhi, India, in October", he explained.
