Mr Alexandre Cordeiro is appointed the new President of CADE
On 12 July, a decree published by President Jair Messias Bolsonaro in the Official Gazette appointed Mr Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo the new President of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
Mr Cordeiro was nominated to the position on 30 June and, on 5 July, was approved at a confirmation hearing held by the Senate's Economic Affairs Committee (CAE). On 7 July, a full plenary of the Senate confirmed the decision.
Mr Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo served as a Commissioner at CADE and was the Council's Superintendent General for two terms. He holds degrees in Law and Economics and is currently a doctoral student in Economic Law at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. In addition, Mr Cordeiro received his master's degree in Constitutional Law from Instituto Brasiliense de Direito Público and postgraduate education in Administrative Disciplinary Proceedings from Universidade de Brasília. Formerly a financial auditor at the Office of the Comptroller General of Brazil, he has been a civil servant since 2006.
CADE's new president will serve a four-year term.
