MERCOSUR authorities to launch Competition Yearbook of 2023
Authorities from Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina have officially launched the MERCOSUR Competition Yearbook of 2023 during the 11th Annual Meeting of the Competition and Trade Working Group of the Latin-American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA). The event was held in November in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Competition Yearbook is the result of a concerted effort of the MERCOSUR competition authorities, aiming to focus on mutual communication and cooperation, as well as the economic agents, scholars, and citizens of the four countries involved. In addition, the document aims to be a reference on the Competition Law of MERCOSUR and each state member, in order to promote a more competitive participation of the block worldwide, to foster debates, exchange of ideas, and produce specialised literature.
The Commission for the Promotion and Defense of Competition (CPDC) of Uruguay coordinated this year's edition and represented a significant step in understanding the competition dynamics in the region. Specialists from the competition authorities of the countries members of MERCOSUR took part in the publication, including the National Commission for Competition Defense (CNDC) of Argentina, the National Competition Commission (Conacom) of Paraguay, the Commission for the Promotion and Defense of Competition (CPDC) of Uruguay, and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) of Brazil.
Among the contributions, the articles of CADE's collaborators stand out, such as the article on anticompetitive purposes, from Diogo Thomson, Alden Caribé, and Priscilla Craveiro, and the article on exclusivity agreement and competition defence, from Comissioner Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima, Bertrand Wanderer, and Otávio Augusto Andrade Santos.
