CADE's President promotes the agency in international events
In April 2022, the President of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), Alexandre Cordeiro, represented the Brazilian competition authority in major international events, such as the Antitrust Writing Awards, organised by the French publisher Concurrences, and the Spring Conversation Series, held by George Mason University.
The Antitrust Writing Awards aims to recognise and advertise the best publications in antitrust law. At the award ceremony in Washington D.C., Mr Cordeiro announced the Dutch competition authority as the winner of the Best Soft Law category, which honours publications on relevant practices that raise awareness about antitrust law and help build a culture of competition.
In a statement made to Concurrences, the President of CADE expressed feeling honoured to participate in the ceremony. He stated that ‘the Antitrust Writing Awards should receive praise for promoting knowledge sharing and research in competition policy. It was a great opportunity to be a board member and present the Best Soft Law category.’
In the context of the Antitrust Compliance Course 2022, the president granted an interview to Professor William Kovacic, George Washington University Law School. In the interview, Mr Cordeiro spoke about the importance of stimulating a corporate culture of compliance.
On 7 April, former FTC commissioner Joshua Wright also interviewed the president as part of the Spring Conversation Series, held by George Mason University. The talk revolved around the structure of the Brazilian competition authority, the impact of the pandemic on merger reviews in Brazil, how international trends influence the decisions made in the country and President Cordeiro’s priorities for the upcoming years.
