CADE’s representatives participate in antitrust international conference
On 1 and 2 June, representatives of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) attended the 6th edition of the Antitrust in the Americas Conference—an event organised by the ABA (the American Bar Association) and IBRAC (the Brazilian Institute of Studies on Competition, Consumer Affairs and International Trade)—that took place in Rio de Janeiro. The main topics covered were competition in digital markets, business transactions in countries of the American continent, and antitrust rules in the technology sector.
The event had eight panels and the participation of members of the antitrust community of several countries, including from Brazil, the United States, Europe and other countries of Latin America.
On 1 June, the Assistant Superintendent of CADE, Diogo Thomson, participated of a panel that covered trends related to investigating price and customer discrimination. Other panellists in the discussion included the director for cartel enforcement from the CMA (the British antitrust authority) and Brazilian and American lawyers.
CADE’s participation on the first day of the event ended with the Superintendent-General Alexandre Barreto speaking at the table that addressed new tools and approaches to promote digital market competition around the globe. The panel also had as speakers representatives of the Mexican and Costa Rican antitrust authorities.
On the second day, Assistant Chief Economist Ricardo Medeiros opened CADE’s participation by talking about issues related to the technology sector with a focus on antitrust matters. Brazilian and Argentinian lawyers also contributed to the topic.
The event ended with the participation of CADE’s President Alexandre Cordeiro. IBRAC’s President Bruno Drago and Latham Watkins’ associate Elise Nelson interviewed Mr Cordeiro on antitrust and the enforcement of the Brazilian antitrust law.
