CADE wins another international award
On 10 May 2021, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) won another important international award for its role in competition defence in Brazil. The CADE Guide on Competition Compliance Programs won the 2021 Antitrust Compliance Awards in the category “Readers Award”.
The award, held by the French journal Concurrences, aims at recognising innovative initiatives related to the promotion of competition culture and antitrust law compliance.
The CADE guide provides guidance on structuring consistent competition compliance programs and presents its benefits for organisations. Published in January 2016, the document aims at preventing abusive conduct that harm competition in Brazil.
For Mr Alexandre Barreto, the then president of CADE, winning the award reinforces the importance and effectiveness of CADE adopting practices that ensure a healthier competitive environment.
“The guide evidence the necessary measures to carry out a consistent and effective compliance program, in addition to which advantages it offers organizations. The recommendations can help prevent anticompetitive behaviour and create a more favourable environment for the best practices”, stated Mr Barreto. "This award is yet another recognition of the excellent work that has been performed by CADE’s employees”.
International recognition
The international participation of CADE within the antitrust community evidence the agency’s prominence and commitment to preserve and promote competition in Brazil and abroad. Attentive to the specificities of the Brazilian economy, the performance of the authority is what makes it possible to foster a business environment favourable to the development of the country.
CADE is being increasingly recognised abroad for its dynamism. Over the past eight years, the authority was ranked amongst the ten best competition authorities in the world in an international ranking held by the British journal GCR. For three times, it received the award for best antitrust authority in the Americas and in 2020 CADE was one of the three finalists for the award best authority of the year, also held by GCR.
Furthermore, other CADE initiatives, such as the guide "Fighting Cartels in Procurements" and the document "Dawn Raid Proceedings: General Information about Operationalization", have already won international awards that recognised their relevance for the antitrust community and society.
