CADE to promote antitrust discussions at universities in São Paulo
On 26 and 27 September, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) will carry out the 7th edition of “CADE at Universities” project, at different universities in São Paulo. The project makes tours to the Law School of Mackenzie Presbyterian University, School of Economics, Business and Accounting of University of São Paulo (FEA/USP), and Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa (Insper).
In addition to disclosing CADE’s work, the Department of Economic Studies developed the initiative to promote the antitrust debate with law and economics students and clarify their questions.
Chief Economist, Lílian Marques, and Commissioners Victor Oliveira Fernandes and Camila Pires are taking part in the workshop that includes meetings with course coordination, coordinators of research groups, lectures, and chats with students of the institution.
The topics on the panels include competition analysis in practice, digital platforms, the role of economic analysis in CADE’s decision-making process, among others.
Educational Function
Besides the purpose of CADE to prevent and suppress antitrust violations by reviewing mergers and investigating anticompetitive conduct, the authority also has an educational role.
In this context, the antitrust authority aims to educate the general public about practices that can jeopardise competition in Brazil. Activities proposed include training, workshops, seminars, and events to promote and disseminate a culture of free competition.
