CADE strengthens its commitment to sustainable development agenda
In the last two weeks, representatives of The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) visited public administration institutions and embassies in Brasília to look for models to improve its sustainability initiatives following its 2022-2025 Sustainable Logistic Plan. The purpose of these visits is to observe the best practices in these places to optimise the performance of CADE.
The Brazilian Superior Court of Justice (STJ), which has adopted sustainable measures since 2008 and established a Sustainable Management Advisory in 2018, was one of the institutions chosen for this sharing experience. During the visit, Chief Advisor Ketlin Feitosa detailed several processes, such as proper waste management and disposal, measures for preparing staff for this attitude change, and the monitoring and control of paper, coffee, and sugar consumption.
While presenting data obtained from management software, Feitosa mentioned, for example, the significant reduction in the consumption of paper reams, which reached 38 thousand units in a single year before the sustainable policies were in place. "Today, data shows our consumption diminished drastically to 3,000 reams of paper in 2022," she stated.
During the visit to the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT), Adriana Tostes, head of the strategic management and sustainability coordination of the authority, stressed that sustainability is, first and foremost, a culture change. "It is important to promote changes in the habits of society and, above all, to set up effective planning. Results are gradual,” she highlighted.
Larissa Pereira, head of the logistics management support section and responsible for the sustainability agenda of CADE, explained that the visits contribute to the actions already carried out by the agency and future measures. "The embassies of Israel and Italy provided a broad view, on the macro scale, of the importance of water reuse and management of organic waste. The visits to the STJ and TJDFT demonstrated feasible actions for CADE in its daily activities since they are also public administration agencies," she said.
Sustainable contracts
Besides proper waste disposal already implemented by CADE, Larissa Pereira mentions that other measures have been part of the routine at the agency for a few years, including the observation of Regulation 01/10 in all tenders. It establishes environmental sustainability criteria for the federal government to acquire goods and services.
"The replacement of all refrigerators used at the headquarters for equipment with the energy consumption label A+ and all light bulbs for LED bulbs are some of the measures adopted. In addition, we no longer use disposable items during events at our headquarters," Pereira concludes.
