CADE renews its memorandum of understanding with COFECE
The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) and the Mexican antitrust authority Comisión Federal de Competencia Económica (COFECE) renewed their memorandum of understanding (MOU), first signed in 2016. The agreement maintains an agenda of cooperation between the countries in competition matters.
The document was signed in early September by the president of CADE, Mr. Alexandre Cordeiro, and the president of COFECE, Ms. Alejandra Palacios Prieto. The signing of the agreement ensures effective compliance with the competition laws of both countries through cooperation and assistance between the agencies.
Upon the agreement, CADE and COFECE commit to promote the exchange of information and best practices on competition law and policy, exchange experiences in investigating anticompetitive conduct, and develop technical assistance in areas of common interest.
Furthermore, the memorandum foresees the agencies carrying out joint studies, conferences and other training activities, in addition to meetings between authorities and mutual visits of work teams to discuss competition issues.
The renewal of the MOU shows CADE interest in fostering cooperation between the antitrust authorities and strengthening fair competition in Latin America.
