CADE nominated for two categories of the GCR Awards 2023
The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) is competing in two categories of this year’s GCR Awards. The Global Competition Review (GCR) is a British journal focused on competition policy and regulations. Voting is open to members of the antitrust community until Monday, 6 February.
CADE’s investigation into antitrust violations in the labour market of health-related products, equipment, and services was nominated in the category “Behavioural matter of the year צ– Americas”. The category recognises strategic and innovative work by competition authorities in antitrust cases.
CADE filed the case to probe into evidence of competitors sharing information related to compensation, pay raises, and benefits paid to current or future employees or both. In 2022, CADE executed six Cease and Desist Agreements with the participant companies. The agreements entailed an innovative provision in Brazilian competition policy, setting forth a compliance programme on labour with periodic training for the entire human resources department.
In addition, the Brazilian authority is also running in the category “Merger control matter of the year – Americas” for its efforts in the merger review of the case involving Atacadão (a Brazilian firm affiliated with the Carrefour Group) and the Big Brasil Group. The deal involves the first and third major food wholesalers in the country. The acquisition gave Carrefour control over almost 900 shops, whose sales amount to BRL 100 billion.
You can choose between the nominees for the GCR Awards 2023 by 6 February through a form available on the GCR website. The winners will be announced on 28 March during a ceremony in Washington, DC, in the United States.
