The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) has been nominated in four categories of the GCR Awards 2022, an annual award ceremony carried out by the Global Competition Review (GCR) – a British journal specialised in antitrust policy and competition law. Voting is open and goes until 14 February.
Once again, CADE was nominated in the category "Government agency of the year” for its effective, strategic and innovative work in 2021. The authority launched investigations and heard relevant cartel cases, making the fight against anticompetitive conduct, cartels in specific, one of its highlights this year.
Running in the categories “Enforcement action of the year” and “Behavioural matter of the year – Americas” is an administrative proceeding launched by CADE’s Office of the Superintendent General that scrutinised the industry of healthcare products, equipment, and related services. The probe was launched after finding indications of competitors' exchange of information on the compensation, pay raises, and benefits offered to their current and future employees.
Lastly, CADE is also running in the category “Merger control matter of the year – Americas” for two merger reviews. In Localiza’s acquisition of Unidas, the authority imposed remedies to mitigate competition risks; the other concerns the acquisition of the Oi Group's mobile business by the companies Tim, Claro and Telefônica Brasil (owner of the brand Vivo).
The voting of the GCR Awards 2022 is open to the public and runs until 14 February 2022. The winners will be announced on 5 April, during a ceremony in Washington, United States.
