Commissioner Diogo Thomson represented the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) in the international antitrust conference “Competition Policy & Digital Transformation”, promoted by the School of Business from the University of Southern California (USC) in partnership with the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, among others. The event was held on 12 August in Santiago, Chile.
Several specialists from Latin-American and American authorities participated in the conference to discuss the impacts of digital economy in competition defence, both from a market and an institutional point of view.
Throughout the debate, Commissioner Diogo Thompson mentioned challenges regarding digital economy and experiences with digital tools, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), on cartel sorting and discovery phase of cases analysed by CADE.
From the commissioner’s perspective, CADE’s contribution to AI usage in competition defence “also impacts data security measures and challenges, such as the combination of new and traditional investigation methods, as well as the preservation of the right to defence and adversarial proceedings”, he stated.
CADE AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) has suggested an amendment to Bill 2338/2023, in course at the Temporary Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CTIA) of the Brazilian Senate.
