CADE and Indian antitrust authority sign memorandum of understanding
Last Friday (18 June), the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to shape a cooperation agenda for the countries.
The document was executed in a virtual ceremony with CADE President Mr Alexandre Barreto and CCI Chair Shri Ashok Kumar Gupta. The agreement sets out guiding principles for cooperation between the agencies, aiming at the promotion of competition and economic welfare in both countries.
At the occasion, Mr Barreto and Shri Gupta stressed the importance of the ongoing international collaboration and joint efforts of their institutions, especially within the scope of the BRICS.
“I am glad to see that, over the years, our bilateral and multilateral cooperation has substantially increased in number and level of coordination. And I have no doubt that the cooperation with our peers contributed a lot for the important achievements that took the defence of competition in Brazil to the next level”, said Mr Barreto.
The MoU stipulates that CADE and the CCI will share information and experiences about M&A activity and investigations involving players from Brazil and India that can affect these countries. Moreover, the authorities will work together to conduct research in the field of competition law, in addition to other joint initiatives.
The ceremony was also attended by the Brazilian ambassador to India, Mr André Corrêa do Lago, who reinforced the benefits of this cooperation.
