TECHNICAL COOPERATION
CADE and ANEEL sign technical cooperation agreement
On 2 August, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL). The cooperation aims to mutually improve their institutional performance, either by preventing and suppressing antitrust violations, or by regulating, monitoring, or enforcing economic activities in the Brazilian electric power sector.
The agreement foresees some activities, such as the exchange of database and relevant information in their respective areas of expertise, exchange of experiences, joint studies, and joint research. The Superintendent General of CADE and the Superintendent of Economic and Financial Oversight of ANEEL are to coordinate the activities in the work plan of the agreement.
Mr Alexandre Cordeiro, president of CADE, and Sandoval Neto, director general of ANEEL, signed the agreement for a five-year term.
Technical Cooperation
The Brazilian antitrust authority has signed technical cooperation agreements to promote a coordinated institutional performance with other authorities, especially with Brazilian government bodies. These efforts have produced positive results, such as the creation of different working groups, provision of conferences, courses and workshops for civil servants training, and coordination with initiatives by other government bodies.
Currently, CADE has 60 agreements in force with the Brazilian Prosecution Services from several states, other regulatory agencies, Brazilian government bodies, and civil society organisations.
