Brazilian Senate approved nominations of new commissioners of CADE
On 12 December, the Senate Tribunal approved the nomination of Camila Cabral, Carlos Jacques, Diogo Thomson, and José Levi as the new commissioners of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
The Tribunal confirmed the nominees that had been approved in the in-depth review session of the commission for economic matters of the Brazilian Senate (CAE). The civil servants are nominated by the President of Brazil.
In compliance with Articles 6, 12, and 16 of Law 12529/2011, the new commissioners are appointed to four-year terms.

Camila Cabral Pires Alves was CADE’s chief economist in 2013. She holds a master’s degree and a PhD in Economics from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2010). She is also an associate professor at the Institute of Economics of UFRJ (IE-UFRJ).
Carlos Jacques is a consultant on economic law matters to the Senate. He is an expert in competition law and participated in the elaboration of the current law of CADE.
Diogo Thomson de Andrade is a federal prosecutor. He has worked at CADE since 2007, as chief prosecutor of the Consulting Office of the Attorney General at CADE (PFE). Since 2012, Mr. Thomson has worked as assistant Superintendent of CADE.
José Levi has been a Counsel for the National Treasury of Brazil since 2000, and he was a public prosecutor from 2019 to 2020. He is an associate professor of Constitutional Law at the Law School of the University of São Paulo (USP).
