Relaxed rules concerning the use of masks in airports and airplanes
Considering the decrease in cases and deaths due to Covid-19 in Brazil and worldwide, Anvisa’s Board of Directors approved unanimously, on May 3rd, 2023, the decision to relax the use of face masks in airports and airplanes. According to the measure, wearing a face mask will be recommended but not obliged.
Evaluation and voting were based on a technical study containing epidemiological data proving the decrease in the number of new cases of the disease, both nationally and worldwide. The technical study also contained data about the vaccination coverage of the Brazilian population.
The relaxation of the rules regarding the use of masks follows the guidelines issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and The World Health Organization (WHO). Loosening the rues is also relevant to the legal actions regarding the entry points/frontiers in the country. Therefore, Article 3-A and Article 13-Item VI of Resolution RDC 456/2020 have been repealed.
